École Marie-Anne-Gaboury School Plan 2019-2020
This year, in conjunction with the ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ Multi-Year Strategic Plan, we are continuing to develop a number of initiatives that we began implementing last year as part of our learning journey. As per the following diagram, these initiatives find their place within the four quadrants of the Circle of Courage.
During the 2019-2020 school year, our team at École Marie-Anne-Gaboury is working on the following objectives:
Objective #1
Our Universal Design for Learning and Project-Based Learning initiatives touch on all four quadrants of the Circle of Courage as students work on issues that are important to them, both collaboratively and independently. Our goal for these initiatives are a continuation of the work that was begun last year.
By June 2020, all students in Grades 5 to 8 will have been actively engaged in a minimum of three project-based learning experiences.
By June 2020, all students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 will have been exposed to and participated in a minimum of three Universal Design for Learning experiences.
Objective #2
To support students with their reading and writing skills, particularly as they pertain to PBL and UDL experiences, teachers are building their students' learning strengths.
By June 2020, all teachers from Kindergarten to Grade 6 will have been trained in the use of the Optimal Learning Model (OLM) to support their students' writing and will have implemented this method at least three times in their classrooms during the year.
By June 2020, our Grades 7 and 8 teachers will have been trained in the use of Assistive Technology in their classroom to support students who are struggling to read and comprehend a variety of texts.
By June 2020, seven teachers will have been trained using the Orton Gillingham approach to support reading at all levels. This is a direct, explicit and multisensory way to teach literacy to all students, but in particular, those for whom reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily.
Objective #3
In an effort to support student self-regulation and promote positive and healthy mental health for our students, we are focusing on mindfulness practices and opportunities for students to engage in activities that develop their sense of well-being.
By June 2020, all teachers from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will have developed and taught lessons that support positive mental health, in collaboration with our Student Services team, committing to daily mindfulness practices throughout the school year.
By June 2020, students will be given the opportunity to engage in multiple activities that support a positive sense of well-being and mental health through a variety of clubs offered throughout the year.
We will provide an update later in the year to share our progress with these goals and their impact on our students.
