Remembering Kookum Hilda Kentiban
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our divisional Knowledge Keeper, Kookum Hilda. Kookum was a guiding light for our schools, students, and community, offering wisdom, teachings, and a spirit of connection that enriched us all.
Kookum’s dedication to preserving and sharing Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing has left an enduring mark on the ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥. Through her stories, ceremonies, and unwavering commitment to children and families, Hilda helped foster understanding, respect, and reconciliation. She always led with kindness and love.
As we mourn her, we honour her legacy by carrying forward the teachings she gifted us. We encourage our community to reflect on the teachings she shared and to support one another in this time of grief.
We recognize this is a difficult time for many, and we encourage anyone needing support to reach out. Whether it’s a conversation, a moment of shared remembrance, or access to additional resources, we are here for you. Please do not hesitate to connect with our team or the clinical services team or seek comfort in the community during this time.
Following Anishinaabe protocols around grief, we will be cancelling Powwow Club this week to continue next week.
Our thoughts are with Hilda’s family, loved ones, and all those whose lives were touched by her presence. We will share details about opportunities to gather in remembrance as they become available.
